Our first multidisciplinary consultation with Pohlig Austria took place at Ponseti Clinic, with more planned

2. September 2026

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the first consultation day of the new concept multidisciplinary consultations for children with complex movement and neurological difficulties took place at the Ponseti Clinic. Consultations take place in cooperation with Michal Musil, orthotic-prosthetist at Pohlig Austria, which specializes in individual orthotic and prosthetic solutions.

On the first consultation day, MUDr. participated on behalf of Ponseti Clinic. Mgr. Monika Frydrychová, Ph.D., head physician of Ponseti Clinic and orthopaedic specialist, and Bc. Anna Horčičková, pediatric neurophysiotherapist at Ponseti Clinic. The field of orthotics and prosthetics was represented by Michal Musil from Pohlig Austria.

The main idea of this concept is to connect the view of several expertises in one moment. Therefore, the health condition of the child is jointly assessed by an orthopaedic specialist, a pediatric neurophysiotherapist and an orthotic-prosthetist. Thanks to this, it is possible to comprehensively evaluate not only the current state of the musculoskeletal system, but also the development to date, the effect of physiotherapy and the possible need for an orthotic or orthopaedic solution.

For whom is the multidisciplinary consultation intended?

The consultation is not intended for children with cerebral palsy (CP). It can also be suitable for children with spinal spasticity, congenital movement defects and other neurological or orthopaedic diagnoses that affect their movement functions.

It can be of particular importance in situations where, despite ongoing care, the child's condition does not move in the expected direction, there is stagnation or deterioration of movement functions, or it is not clear in which direction further treatment should continue.

Three expertise, one common view

During the 45-minute consultation, the child is assessed together:

The goal is not only to evaluate the current state, but above all to determine the most appropriate next course of action together. The expert team assesses whether continuation or adjustment of physiotherapy is sufficient at the given stage, whether a suitably chosen orthosis or other aid could help the child, or whether it is appropriate to consider orthopaedic surgery.

A multidisciplinary assessment can thus help answer questions such as:

Is the current physiotherapy set up optimally? Is it appropriate to change its focus? Does the child need an orthosis or modification of the existing aid? Can further improvement be achieved in a conservative way? Or does the condition already require consideration of an orthopaedic procedure?

The purpose of the consultation is to find a solution that will meet the child's specific needs and lead to the best possible functional result.

Your own physical therapist is welcome

It is very beneficial if the physiotherapist who takes care of the child long-term can also participate in the consultation. The expert team can directly discuss with him the current course of therapy, its goals and other options, and possibly recommend a modification of the therapeutic procedure.

In this way, the conclusions of the multidisciplinary consultation can be more directly reflected in the daily care of the child.

The first consultation day took place on 24 August 2026.

Linking orthopaedics, pediatric neurophysiotherapy and orthotics-prosthetics within one joint examination represents the next step in our long-term efforts to provide children with complex movement difficulties with coordinated care across individual specialties.
